Some Weaving Knots

No. 485 No. 502

No. 485 is the canonical weaver's knot, while no. 502 is a knot used for mohair. Both, along with many others used in the weaving trades, can be found in Ashley, pp. 78-81 . Some modern weavers avoid knots, since these invariably work to the surface and become exposed to friction. The preferred alternative is to overlap the yarns so that there is a more gradual transition between colors. Of course, making this transition elegantly and sturdily is part of the art of weaving. My thanks to Rudi Ann Weissinger for this information.
